The NP241C transfer can be found from late 80's GM applications to present. Dodge trucks also uses their own version (241D) of this unit in their 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton trucks. This transfer case has a very good reputation for durability and long life.
As with most NVG transfer cases, a slip yoke design is used with the rear output shaft. This design is prone to leaks and also contributes to a very long overall length. This long length combined with the slip yoke design often creates driveline geometry problems with lifted suspensions. We have also seen applications where the 241C is transplanted into shorter wheelbase vehicles thus compounding the driveline problems.
To eliminate some of the problems mentioned above, we have designed a new super-short Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) kit which substantially reduces the overall length of the transfer case without sacrificing the strength of the unit.
Our new SYE kit reduces the overall length of the NP241 transfer case by 9 inches. Notice the comparison between the original, longer mainshaft and housing compared to the new shorty components. (Fig.1,2,3). This kit will also work with the Dodge version of the NP241.
